Abstract

This study analyses segmental and suprasegmental errors made by Congolese learners of English. The findings show the influence of the first language and differences in the spelling and phonological systems of Lingala, French and English. It recommends an articulatory approach, minimal-pair practice and communicative activities focused on developing proper stress.
